Howdy all,
This week I get to see two big American extravaganzas,
right from in front of my living room, almost.
Next Saturday is Inauguration Day, when the biggest
fool the Americans have ever voted into the office,
becomes President of these here United States of
theirs. George Dubbya is an ignorant berk who if I
was asked, would be the man most likely to start WW
III. He spent the 1970s in an alcohol and cocaine
induced fugue and is a pawn of the National Rifle
Association. I can see another civil war here in the
next four years. I think there is something fishy
going on when one family can have two presidents and
two state governors in the space of eight years.
I visited the Capitol building on Friday and saw more
than half the free world's portaloos on one site. It
is fortunate that it is winter, as these things in
summer would be a dysentery bomb. The National Mall
is now one long tent and walking there is a nightmare
with all of the construction. Unfortunately the
museums and sites, like the Washington Monument and
Lincoln Memorial are next to the Mall. The secret
service is also everywhere.
Yesterday, the Baltimore Ravens nancy football team
won their playoff to enter the Super Bowl. If you
don't know American geography, Baltimore is just 40
miles from DC and the Ravens are just five years old.
So all this week I will be subjected to American over
the top hype about them. The Ravens were 50 to 1
outsiders to make it, and their rivals for the
flag/pennant/fruit bowl whatever are the NY Giants,
who were 40 to 1 outsiders for the Bowl. The
Washington Redskins, who were the Manly Sea Eagles of
the NFL (ie they bought their team this year) were the
original favourites but they exhibited the old credo,
a champion team (or any team this year) will always
beat a team of champions.
